Violation Music ‘Heads Will Roll’ interview

I spoke to London-based Violation Music about the label, the new ep and what was behind it.

V: Myself (Warmachine) & Bomh started the label as a way to contribute to a scene we grew up with being inspired by artists such as Goldie, Bad Company, Ed Rush & Optical, Doc Scott, Marky & too many more to mention. We’ve been close friends since we were kids. I’m more into the deeper/minimal tracks whereas Bomh is more influenced by tech/neuro so we balance each other out.

DB: Some amazing sounds on the new Heads Will Roll ep (out Jan 18) and love the title too: it’s all warm, creepy, easy to get lost in, could you tell us about some of the people on there?

V: 539 Limited is from Norwich, Dark Entity is from Buckinghamshire & we are from London. We originally had my two tracks and then got in touch with the other guys who provided us with some great material… our vision was to put something out forward-thinking.

DB: Is there a story behind ‘Snitches Get Stitches’? I once worked in a rough job and heard that saying ha ha.

V: Nothing too sinister.

: What was 2012 like for you, re D&B, what tunes inspired you?

V: It was a great year with lots of new talent coming through… but too many individual tracks to name! Just anything by the likes of dBridge, Amit, Loxy, Krust, Sabre, Calibre etc. Listening to the tracks these guys make really drives me to improve.

DB: Where would you like to take your sound in 2013?

V: We’re going to concentrate on keep putting out the material on the label we feel is cutting edge and maybe put on a few label nights in the future. We’re currently working on our 2nd release, another EP. We’re just finalising this now which features great talents such as nCamargo from Brazil, Simpa & Selrahc from Seattle, Dominion & Maddela from NYC & we’re also looking forward to be working with Hyroglifics & Dominic Ridgway this year. When it comes to playing out we’d just like to DJ with anyone doing something different.
