Guardian Music have just launched Six Songs of Me, a brand new app that celebrates the songs that have shaped people’s lives.
For those of you who get the shivers when you hear a memorable track, you’ll know what I’m talking about here. It could be the song you first heard on a big system as the bass ripped through you, the song that made ‘that festival trip’ back in 2000 or it could be a track that you have on repeat as you block out the commuter noise in the tube on your commute to work – We all have at least one special song.
The app asks you to answer six simple questions, with your answers being songs that have personal meaning to them:
1. What was the first song you bought?
2. What song always gets you dancing?
3. What song takes you back to your youth?
4. What is the best song you’ve ever heard live?
5. What song would you have played at your funeral?
6. What about your encore? your wildcard? One.more.song
Upon answering the questions, you create a profile page, with content based around your six choices and Spotify links to play each track.
In conjunction with the launch of Six Songs of Me we’ve got 3 x 1GB USB Mixtapes by Suck UK to give away, worth £20 each – plus a £5 iTunes voucher to fill it with your six songs.
To be in with a chance of winning, simply create your own playlist here. Then, email your entry to mark@friedmylittlebrain.com, with the subject line “GUARDIAN”, paste your playlist link into the body of the email. That’s it. Nice and easy.
For inspiration, head over to the app, login and browse some recent entries. You can see my choices in the image above…
The competition ends on August 30th 2012. We’ll pick 3 random winners shortly after the closing date.
There’s also a chance to win one of 5 x iPads over at the Guardian Six Songs of Me site. All you have to do is head over and create your own playlist, and drop the URL into the box over on this competition page to be in with a chance of winning.
ps. Yes, I do write for an electronic blog, but c’mon, who doesn’t love a bit of Billy Ocean?!
