”The Gucci Soundsystem” (DFA records) + VERY Special Guests + BlackMagik Residents!!
Mark | | 12:43 am
Posted on the Alkan forum:
On June 20th, Somewhere in the firmanent of the fair city of Newcastle, Ladies and Gentlemen, we give to you,,,,,
”The Gucci Soundsystem” (DFA records) + VERY Special Guests + BlackMagik Residents!!
Riton and Ben Fat Trucker are two stalwarts of London’s long established and ever growing electronic/rock/dance scene. Separately the pair have long histories of releasing records and DJ’ing. Riton released 2 albums on Grand Central and the Fat Truckers LP came out on Gigolo records in 2003.
When the pair began Gucci Sound system they soon realised they were able to bring much more to their sets.
“We quickly realised the freedom it gave us to add other elements to our sets. We’re using our own edits, Ableton and live FX. We definitely push the boundaries a lot more with the types of music we play , doing G.S.S. is a lot more about expanding what’s played on dancefloors, not sticking to what’s perceived as popular, I guess getting back towards the spirit of underground dance music”
The pairs London club night “Druzzis Baltimore Rave club” has been running for 4 years now and has included guests of the calibre of Tiefschwarz, James Murphy, Weatherall, Ivan Smagge, 2 many DJ’s, The Rapture, Erol Alkan and Optimo.
“We loved the ethos of putting the cream of the world’s DJ’s in intimate environments, where the crowd our on top of the DJ box. And the DJ’s loved it too!”
Druzzi’s is now enjoying a monthly residency at Shoreditch’s legendary ‘T Bar’, one of DJ Magazines top 50 clubs in the world 2007.
After cementing their production reputation with remixes for Tiefschwarz and Soulwax the boys became regulars at Fabric, Bugged Out and across Europe. Their debut solo release “Acarpenter” came out on the Bugged Out label last year to rave reviews. Andrew Weatherall, Optimo and James Murphy all caned it. In fact Murphy, The LCD Sound System / DFA main man, liked it so much he decided to license it for a re-release on DFA records adding a stunning Joakim remix on the B-Side. More releases are lined up on DFA imminently and the pair returned the favour to Murphy by remixing Time to Get Away by LCD Soundsystem
The DJ duo haven’t stopped playing out though, and the association with DFA, a label renowned for pushing the envelope in terms of dance music, has meant their style of DJng is getting more attention than ever
“Everyone’s talking about the Gucci Sound System. We love Ben and Henry!!”- Time out magazine
,,,,, Anyone that was there when we had Riton play for us at ‘The Other Rooms’ earlier this year will tell you how he almost ripped the club a new fire exit he was so good, so expect TWICE the pressure when the Gucci Soundsystem lands again. Soooooo, that’ll be June sorted then aye? More details and guests for this will be drip fed in the next few days.
(Wait till you see what we’ve got for July,,,, it’s that good, it’s not even funny!!!!!)
Peace out y’all.
Big bizniz afoot. BlackMagik and MegaDebt present, ‘The Gucci Soundsystem’ (DFA Records) + Residents. Friday 20th of June@The Other Rooms, Newcastle!!!!!

Mark | May 26, 2008 | 5:36 pm
This June at Durrr is looking HUGE!
2nd:
LADYHAWKE (LIVE)
Club favourite Ladyhawke comes down to play live for us tonight! New Zealand’s one woman power ballad revivalist will be knocking out the power chords and encouraging mulleted, Harley straddling, soft focused rocking! Think Stevie Nicks, Heart and 80’s Bowie….
MIDFIELD GENERAL (DJ SET)
General Of The Midfield, Skint records head honcho and all round lovely man Damian Harris (aka Midfield General, duh) will be hitting the decks tonight! With fantastic new album ‘General Disarray’ in Ye Recorde Shoppes now, you’ve probably danced like a grinning monkey to the fantastic ‘Disco Siren’ at some point over the last couple of months - come hear the man lay down one of his infamous party spectaculars!
9th:
WHITE WILLIAMS (LIVE)
White Williams have a sound that echoes all the best in 80’s pop and combines that with a tick tock club sensibility that places them in roughly the same area as a cross between Whitey, Metronomy and LCD Soundsystem. Led by Joe Williams, tonight they grace our stage and play highlights from their debut album ‘Smoke’.
16th:
ESSER (LIVE)
Nascent pop genius Ben Esser has already made one of the summer’s catchiest tunes in the shape of ‘I Love You’ and has an album on the way. Instantly catchy, loveable and joyous expect to be wowed by this charming young man and his band’s excellent vein of indie pop wonders!
PURE GROOVE (DJS)
One of London’s foremost record shops, tonight the Pure Groove team take over the Live room to bring you a set packed to the gills with the latest and greatest new sounds!
JDH & DAVE P (DJ SET)
Guests of ours earlier in the year, JDH & Dave P return to the decks tonight for another installment of beat based fun. Two of American clubbing’s leading lights, they put on the Fixed parties in NYC and Dave curates Philadelphia’s excellent Makin Time night. Expect to hear a cool selection of records that our trans-atlantic cousins are grooving to !
23rd:
WHITEY (LIVE)
Underground legend Whitey hits the stage for a rare London club appearance tonight in anticipation of new album ‘Stay On The Outside’, which will be with us later in the year. Always special and never dull, make sure you don’t miss this one!
VIDEO HIPPOS (LIVE)
Baltimore’s Video Hippos make lo-fi indie gems, reminiscent of Sonic Youth, Animal Collective and shoegazy things like MBV, only with more drum machines and casio bothering. They also have a song with the exellent title ‘Piss Traction’, which makes us giggle. Check out their myspace for a couple of downloadables….
EROL ALKAN (DJ SET)
Erol joins us once more for what is sure to be another fine display of L’Arte de Dee Jay. Fresh from producing LOTP’s debut album, and about to head off into festival land, catch what will be one of his few club gigs of the summer. If you don’t know how good he is at what he does by now, you’re an idiot. Come and join us as we annoy grammarians by using the word ‘party’ as a verb….
30th:
PNAU (LIVE)
Aussie chart botherers PNAU are well known down under for providing ears with super sexy sampled-up dance wonderment. Recent single ‘Baby’ has been turning heads all over the place, so come down and see just what these guys are doing so well that everyone wants a piece of them!
A TRAK (DJ SET)
Canadian Hip Hop wunderkind A Trak is a turntable legend. The youngest ever DMC World DJ Champion (at 15), he runs the Fool’s Gold label, has worked closely with Kanye West on various things and ran the Audio Research label with his brother (the one with the ‘tache in Chromeo). He’s recently remixed Bonde De Role, Architecture In Helsinki and Digitalism amongst many others. You won’t get many chances to see him in the UK outside of a festival tent, so don’t miss!
