These announcements were a while back now but here’s a roundup for the line-ups for Sónar’s four events around the world this year: Barcelona, Cape Town, Tokyo and São Paulo. I’ve never been, so hope to make it to Barcelona this year.
Sónar Barcelona takes place on 14, 15 and 16 June and the first confirmed artists include: The Roots (pictured above), Deadmau5, Hot Chip, Modeselektor, James Blake, Fatboy Slim, Richie Hawtin, Amon Tobin’s ISAM (pictured below), Squarepusher, Nicolas Jaar, Luciano, Azari & III, Jacques Lu Cont, Friendly Fires, Metronomy, John Talabot, Mouse On Mars, BBC Radio 1 presents Annie Mac & guests and label showcases from Hyperdub, Brainfeeder and 100% Silk.
The festival will travel to Africa for the first time on March 2nd, with “A Taste of Sónar” in Cape Town as part of a collaboration with the multidisciplinary event Design Indaba. The line-up includes Modeselektor (pictured below), Byetone, Brodinski, BLK JKS, Das Kapital, Fletcher in Dub and Killer Robot.
Sónar returns to Japan – for it’s fifth time – on 21 and 22 April for SonarSound Tokyo. Another tasty line-up including some great Warp artist’s includes: Squarepusher, Clark and Rustie alongside The Cinematic Orchestra, Mount Kimbie, Hudson Mohawke (pictured below) and Vincent Gallo. The Japanese audience are in for a treat.
Last, but not least, Sónar São Paulo takes place on 11 and 12 May, and will be the largest of all the events organized by Sónar outside Barcelona. The line-up features, among others, Mogwai, Jeff Mills, Squarepusher (pictured above), Za! and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, in addition to the previously announced artists Björk, Justice, Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto, James Blake, Four Tet and Modeselektor.
This year for the first time, Sónar is introducing the new payment system in two instalments for purchasing the 3-day pass for the festival in Barcelona, with an initial payment of 80€ when the booking is made (before 31 March) and a second payment of 75€ before 5 May. Find all information about the Sónar tickets on the official site.
These 3 new dates contribute to a total of 31 events that Sónar has organised all over the world. For further information on any of the four events, head over to the official website.
