Joanna Newsom - The Book of Right On (Pocketknife Remix)

Just got a mail from Cousin Cole aka Cole Gerard with a remix by the man himself and Pocket Knife, his partner in Flagrant Fowl. A nice little downtempo/beat style remix of a folk song by Joanna Newsom. The song is part of the tracklist featuring on the new Tambourine Dream cd out now. “Tambourine Dream” — an 18 track mix comprised entirely of our remixes of folk/acoustic songs, is looking fantastic.

The new release, which the boys affectionately call “Tambo D,” includes beautiful remixes of songs you’ve probably listened to on your parents’ record player like Neil Young’s “My My, Hey Hey,” and John Lennon’s “Oh Yoko!” But it also includes a few of those MySpace/Pitchfork darlings you’ve been queuing up on the iPod (Feist’s “Gatekeeper,” Joanna Newsom’s “The Book of Right-On,” Iron and Wine’s “Each Coming Night”). Most tracks include original bass arrangements by their friend Clint Brewer and guitar, percussion and keyboards from Mr. Laposky himself. Each song has an added witty title for the remix. Beirut’s “Scenic World” is “Pocketknife’s Breathtaken Remix,” Panda Bear’s “Bros” is “Cousin Cole’s No Bro-Mo House Mix,” etc..

Spank Rock seems to see the compilation as something he likes also..

“I like this mix because i can play it around other people, without boring them, making them want to cry, or ruining my reputation as the most gangster of gangster rappers. And what makes these edits truly outstanding is that it doesn’t chop up the vocals or drop Lavender diamond in the middle of a rave, but just gives each song an extra push to have a nice uplifting easy listening mix to two step to, or pre-game  with.”
