The Top Ten Hip Hop Artists To Date

After investing a few hours into my self-taught internet hip hop education yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice that there were several aficionados on the hip hop top ten front. You can scroll down for centuries through threads of disagreements and street dance off “bring it on’s”. No two lists are right or wrong. No two lists are ever the same.

There is no way that I am a professionally qualified on this subject.  I will admittedly say that I am too young to have grown up on the “good stuff”. That won’t, however, discredit the gems that were created when Run DMC were rocking Adidas and I was rocking diapers.

Sure, one could easily split into a million sub genres. “Best gangsta rap”, “best old school”, “best east coast”, “best west coast”. The possibilities are endless. This, my friends, is my personal choice of what artists I would book in a concert, on the moon, unlimited money, a time machine, a starship, ten slots to fill.

In no particular order:

1. Jay-Z. (The HOVA, Jigga)

2. Mos Def & Talib Kweli. (They do come as a package, you know)

3. Run DMC. (Also, a package)

4. Wu Tang Clan.

5. Dr. Dre.

6. A Tribe Called Quest.

7. Public Enemy. (Yeahhhh Booyeeeee)

8. NWA.

9. Kanye West. (I sat here a good 20 minutes before I could even type it. I know. I can’t help it, his songs are as catchy as syphilis)

10. Fresh Prince Just kidding…

10. Snoop Dogg

Be sure to check out Def Jam Records for some of these artists.
